  <title>Triangle Zope and Python Users Group Events</title>
  <link>http://trizpug.org/events</link>
  <description>
    Zope and Python users in the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill/Carrboro) North Carolina region meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (except for the November and December special meetings on the third Thursdays). We welcome you to join us. We are a small, fun-loving band of Python® zealots trying to learn more. We have a very loose organization, charge no dues, and range from newbies to gurus. We are focused on improving the usability of Python products through self-education and outreach.

<description>
A development sprint is an excuse to get together, write some code, and have a good time doing it. The purpose of this sprint will be to help finish features and push out bug fixes in preparation for the Django 1.4 release. If you're interested in coming to work on other open source Django-based projects, that's welcome too. It doesn't require any previous experience and, if you don't have prior experience contributing to Django, it is the perfect opportunity to start. We'll be there at 9am both days to open the doors. It's a tradition to go out for drinks after the sprinting winds down, perhaps around 4 or 5, but this may be earlier or later depending on the general momentum of the sprint. The sprint is being hosted by Caktus Consulting Group.

<title>TriZPUG March 2010 Meeting: Selenium and Sauce</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/mrevoir/mar-10-mtg</link>
<description>
Frank Wierzbicki, lead committer for Jython (http://jython.org/), will demonstrate web systems integration testing with Selenium (http://seleniumhq.org/) and Sauce (http://saucelabs.com/). Selenium is a suite of tools specifically for testing web applications in the browser. Sauce IDE and Remote Client automate Selenium tests &quot;in the cloud&quot; across the ten most popular browsers, providing video of test results. Tests can be recorded from mouse movements and keyboard strokes, or scripted Pythonically. If you develop web applications, you do not want to miss this presentation. As always, lightning talks of ten minutes or less are also welcome. Anything you've learned about Python, no matter how trivial, can be a lightning talk. Mike Revoir hosts at the spacious Duke University North Pavillion (http://trizpug.org/Members/mrevoir/duke_lllh_logistics) where there is plenty of directly adjacent free parking. Read the article for more information.

<title>Django Sprint</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/tobias/django-sprint-march-2010</link>
<description>
We're hosting a Django development sprint at Carrboro Creative Coworking on March 20th and 21st, 2010. A sprint is a concerted, focused period of time in which developers meet in the same space to get things done on a project. This will be a general sprint focused on fixing bugs for the 1.2 release. It doesn't require any previous experience and, if you don't have prior experience contributing to Django, it is the perfect opportunity to start. We'll be there at 9am both days to open the doors. The sprint is being hosted by Caktus Consulting Group. If you need help finding the location or have other questions on the day of the sprint, just give us a call at 919-951-0052.

Let's get together not just to talk about Python but to use Python. Python Hack Night is where you can get hands-on learning and help on your small projects. If you have a project on which you need some help, then you should come. If you have time to spare and want to help, then you should come. If you just want to come work on a project with other Python hackers, then you should come. If you want to see what projects others are working on, then you should come. Suggestions for more venues to host Python Hack Nights are welcome. Read the article for more information.

<description>
Frank Wierzbicki will present a talk on Jython that is a preview for his PyCon talk.

Jython is an implementation of Python for the JVM. This talk covers the options available for integrating Jython and Java code, especially Java calling into Jython, since this is the trickier case. This talk will also cover some Java specific deployment options, such as deploying your Jython application as a jar file. Jar files allow you to package Java/Jython applications into a single archive. In many environments a user can click a jar file to launch the contained application.

<title>The No-Fun ZopeSkel BBQ Sprint</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/cbc/zopeskel-bbq-sprint</link>
<description>
A highly focused, planned, and organized, very small, no-fun, no-cost, all-business sprint to improve ZopeSkel usability for Plone themers, integrators, and new developers. The primary goal is to improve ZopeSkel infrastructure rather than to create new ZopeSkel templates. This may result in a ZopeSkel wrapper product code-named Button. This sprint is not invite-only, however, we are not looking for a large group or side-projects. We, in fact, are specifically discouraging side-projects of any kind--the purpose of this sprint is solely to accomplish a pre-determined task list assembled by the sprint organizers. This would not be a good sprint for someone looking to learn more about Plone site-building or product-development per se, since the technologies we're working with here are not much more general-Python than Plone-specific. This sprint is really for experienced Python programmers who want to help with the ZopeSkel infrastructure.

<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/cbc/wpd-2008</link>
<description>
You are invited to World Plone Day, to be celebrated Friday, November 7 from 10am until noon on the UNC campus with a short symposium in room G202 of the Medical Biomolecular Research Building(MBRB). World Plone Day, with 59 events in 31 countries on 5 continents, brings together over 60 Plone developers on the UNC campus presenting what Plone is and how the Plone content management system is used within enterprise-hardened environments at UNC. World Plone Day will also include announcements about how Plone-based projects at UNC are pooling their resources to better leverage the distributed Plone development community on campus. The event will be followed by lunch on your own with the campus Plone development community at the Tar Heel Cafe in the Thurston Bowles Building.

<title>TriZPUG April 2008 Meeting: Scientific Python - Remote Sensing and Ecological Modeling</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/psmith/apr-08-mtg</link>
<description>
Josh Gray, a doctoral candidate in the UNC Department of Geography, will describe a NASA funded ecological investigation which explores methods of scaling up eddy covariance flux tower estimates of various ecological parameters, especially those related to carbon and water cycling, to regional scales. Various remotely sensed images are employed in a novel model which estimates evapotranspiration for the Eno River Watershed in Durham and Orange Counties. Originally the workflow was entirely Matlab based. This user has found that the Python combination of numpy, pylab, and gdal has provided a full replacement and increased efficiency and portability.

KSS is Kinetic Style Sheets. It brings a super simple CSS-like domain-specific syntax to doing Ajax applications without having to know any Javascript. Think of it as Grok for Ajax. It currently works in Zope2, Zope3, Grok, and Plone. It's being brought to Django and Pylons and soon the rest of the world. It currently works with Prototype, MochiKit, Sarissa, and JQuery and has a plug-in architecture to allow it to accommodate other Javascript libraries like Scriptalicious. It has a large and very active developer community of great talent. KSS is celebrated annually at the Sorrento Sprint.

<title>Intro to Plone Day Camp</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/boot-camp/pbc3/ipbc3-event</link>
<description>
Interested in content management or web development, but not certain if Plone is for you? Or is your department/company using Plone, but you'd like a friendly hands-on course to help you use the system? This course is intended for you!

This course is intended for:

    * evaluators of content management systems
    * students and developers looking at Plone as a solution
    * content managers/editors who would like to learn how to use Plone

This course does not assume any web development experience, or knowledge of Plone.

This course is taught hands-on -- so you'll have a chance to practice using Plone while learning about what it does, all in a comfortable, friendly setting.

With dozens of active Plone deployments in the Triangle area at at area Universities, this is the best time to evaluate and learn to use Plone!

TriZPUG reprises their highly successful Plone Boot Camp, the world's largest Plone training conference now emulated by Python users groups nationwide. Plone Boot Camp takes web developers who can evaluate a Python expression to the status of fully qualified Plone developer with one week of training. Once again, Plone Boot Camp will be taught by the incomparable Joel Burton, Chair of the Plone Foundation. Joel is the best technical instructor you will ever see and hear. Just ask last year's Plone Boot Camp participants. Registration for Plone Boot Camp 2 opens February 13. This year's Boot Camp is updated for Plone 2.1.x and previews Plone 2.2. To prepare for Plone Boot Camp, see our &quot;Get Up To Speed&quot; page. Plone Boot Camp 2 is $250/person (early bird registration) for the week including a daily catered lunch. Plone Boot Camp 2 is made possible by the kind sponsorship of the Carolina Cardiovascular Biology Center.

This meeting should be very lively and dynamic with an introduction to Plone Test Case and Python unit testing by Tom Bryan. Then we'll move into working with PloneHelpCenter, addressing potential ToDo's with some extreme programming and try out different integrated development environments (IDE), such as Wing, Boa Constructor and Kamodo. Time and interest dependant, Chris Calloway might show off some tips on working with list comprehensions in Python.

Please contact Tom Bryan if you plan on coming so that we can ensure that we have sufficient room for everyone.

<title>Social Patterns in Content Management</title>
<link>http://trizpug.org/Members/paoloman/mtg-102704</link>
<description>
The topic this month is Plone. Those who have experience setting up and using Plone are invited to share what they've learned, both technological issues and social issues (use patterns with content authors, etc.). Let's have a discussion about some of the big picture issues around Plone: what is it the right tool for, how easy or hard is it to set up and maintain (both for web developers and content authors), what areas present more difficulties and what works out of the box, etc.
